A Random Act of Gardening

My wife took this photo last week. In the middle of the busy Zurich, Switzerland airport tarmac, surrounded by all this concrete, scorching sun and exhaust fumes, is a tower of red flowers. It is there seemingly to dress up the airport round-about for maintenance vehicles, fuel trucks, baggage handling carts and catering services. It looks more like a lonely Cousin It.

I have a long-time garden blog, a popular garden on America's largest garden tour, and have co-written a book on garden design titled, "Buffalo-Style Gardens: Create a Quirky, One-of-a-Kind Private Garden with Eye-Catching Designs" When I'm not doing all that, I am an advertising designer always out looking to design things to promote your business. Look me up at #jcharlier.

  1. So funny… and so funny looking.

  2. My wife assures me they were beautiful red flowers, but from the camera-phone photo it looks like a feathered tuque.

I was going to ask what it was, but apparently, you are not sure. Very strange location. It looked to me like a fuzzy bollard so when the trucks back up…. squish rather than bang.

  4. Donna,Yeah – that's what struck me about it — it was totaly random. Like a gardening non-sequitur.
