The grate light

The grate has been up for a few weeks, by day, the mandevilla is climbing happily, but now at night, it’s a night light

From a bit further away–the “outdoor kitchen.”

In context–it’s tucked in the back corner of the deck.

I have a long-time garden blog, a popular garden on America's largest garden tour, and have co-written a book on garden design titled, "Buffalo-Style Gardens: Create a Quirky, One-of-a-Kind Private Garden with Eye-Catching Designs" When I'm not doing all that, I am an advertising designer always out looking to design things to promote your business. Look me up at #jcharlier.

  5. I really like the lighting you have all around your deck and grate. That's the next thing we need to work on, it makes a big difference.

  6. flowgirl1 & Sprout,Well, thank you!allotmanets4you,With the sucky weather (cool and, more often than not, rainy at dinnertime) we have this summer we've not entertained as much as we usually do. But it is designed for entertaining.Pam,Thanks.Catherine,It makes a big difference if you do spend time in your yard in the evenings. We do, from cooking, to dining to spending time in the hot tub. If you don't spend time in your yard, a lot less lighting is needed, say, if you're only lighting things to be seen from inside the house.

  8. Jim, it's really nice. What kind of lights did you use? Is it that tube lighting? (I don't know what it's called.)

  9. Lynn,Wow. Elegant. No one's ever said that of one of my ideas! Thanks.Jean,Hey there. They are “tube lights” otherwise known as rope lights. They're the greatest invention, after the vacuum cleaner. Check out my “Outdoor Lighting” posts in the side bar. They can look pretty disco-y if used wrong though. Be warned.
