Garden District? Georgetown? King Wiliam District? No, just little ol’ me, Buffalo.

Here’s some shots of homes & gardens from a neighborhood walk last weekend. Primarily it is Linwood Ave, Summer Street, Oakland Place and Elmwood Avenue.

Here’s where we started. My house.

We live one house away from a busy commercial strip of restaurants & shops. One of the nation’s top ten neighborhoods, according to the American Planning Association.

I designed the sign above Everything Elmwood.

The local coffeehouse. And my off-site meeting room. I don’t drink coffee though.

This church garden is the only garden to be on Garden Walk Buffalo for each of its 14 years.

The yellow of this house and fence reminded me of the inside of Monet’s house in Giverny.

You can see why we call this Temple Beth Cupcake.

One of dozens and dozens of carriage houses throughout the neighborhood. I’d love to sneak behind some of these grand homes to see all the carriage houses. many are rented apartments.

I’ve always wanted a house with a mansard roof.

This “house” is my daughter’s doctor’s office.

This house is across the street from mine.

Not sure I’d know what to do with all this space.

I have a long-time garden blog, a popular garden on America's largest garden tour, and have co-written a book on garden design titled, "Buffalo-Style Gardens: Create a Quirky, One-of-a-Kind Private Garden with Eye-Catching Designs" When I'm not doing all that, I am an advertising designer always out looking to design things to promote your business. Look me up at #jcharlier.

Oh, what beautiful homes. I like the doctor’s office best, I think, for style and what appeals to me. Absolutely gorgeous, all of them.

  2. Thanks for a wonderful tour of the old home town. I’ve been gone 30 years but once a Buffalo gal, always a Buffalo gal. When my mom was a little girl she actually had some friends who lived in those grand houses on Delaware Ave. before they all became corporate HQs. When I was little (1950s) my doctor and dentist both had their offices in their homes in the streets off of Elmwood.

  3. nancybond,The Dr.’s office is the only one here I’ve been inside (other than my own, of course). It’s quite impressive, with all original woodwork, huge rooms and original fixtures. It’s a stunner.ms. wis,Gone 30 years? Nothing’s changed much! The housing stock is still impressive. You’ll have to back to visit during Garden Walk Buffalo!

  4. Buffalo is as beautiful as Paris. Now, why do people look at me as if I’m insane when I express this obvious truth?
